The basics

The table below gives a brief example of the main component of an Operational Plan. This component will be referred to as a "Schedule of Resource Allocation".

Basically, the Operational Plan is a plan for the implementation of strategies contained within the Strategic Plan.

Below you will find a simplified Schedule of Resource Allocation that deals with eight (8) strategies. In real life, a strategic plan would probably contain many more. These eight strategies are for the Key Result Area of Membership. If the strategic plan had six key result areas then you might appreciate that a full strategic plan could quite easily cover 30 - 50 strategies. Each strategy has to be "operationalised", and this requires the following tasks:

1

Define a timeframe for each strategy to start and be concluded

2

Allocate tasks to one or more individuals

3

Stipulate the budget expenditure for each strategy

4

Indicate/highlight what other resources are needed

In simple terms the Operational Plan is the "who", "what", "when" and how much information that makes it possible to implement a strategic plan.
