Motivation to be a volunteer?

It is exceptionally important to understand why people volunteer. This is particularly so as volunteers are generally becoming harder to find.

  • People who feel they have benefited themselves and just want to put back into the system
  • People who feel that they have certain skills to offer
  • People who are unemployed and hope to maintain work skills and to improve employability
  • People who want a paid job in your organisation.
  • Retired people who want to continue to use their skills and experience in a way which will replace purpose found in their paid work
  • People who want to use their spare time in satisfying way
  • People who want to meet other people and make friends through voluntary work
  • People who want to increase knowledge of helping professions
  • Volunteers who want to solve a community problem
