There is a very real risk of loss of life and major injury when large crowds gather to watch a sporting event. The following calamitous events are rare but they have occurred at sporting events, and will occur again in the future.
Managers and organisers of such sporting events have to plan for such risks, and ensure that emergency management plans are well implemented.
However, some thought also needs to be given to smaller scale emergencies but which, for the individuals concerned, are no less life threatening.

Anyone who is in a crowd watching a sporting event is entitled to a duty of care by the event organiser. There must be some way that the injured or sick spectator can rapidly receive first aid and transport to a hospital.
