The Cover Page
Important aspects of a cover page are:
| Logo | A distinguishing trademark that is generally put on all business documentation. |
| Document Title |
In many cases a title assists the reader to (a) obtain some idea of what the report is about and (b) an easy way to refer to the document (if it has an easy to remember title). |
| Graphics |
It is common practise to add a picture of clip art graphic to the cover page. If it is original and interesting, a graphic can make the cover page more attractive. On the other hand, Microsoft Clipart is too commonly recognisable and overused, and is somewhat boring. The insertion of a colour photograph on the cover page is not advisable if you have a black and white printer, or even a low quality colour printer. Tip: Insert a graphic by all means but make sure it is not one which is in common use. |
| Author |
It is essential to name the author on the cover page |
| Headers and Footers | Generally headers and footers are not required for a cover page. You can remove headers and footers from your cover page by checking the "Different First Page" box in Page Setup, which can be found in the File dropdown menu of Microsoft Word. |
| Date | Always add the publication date of your document. Never insert a date field for this purpose. Date fields automatically update themselves every time you open the document on your PC. |
